kathleen's got an apartment
somewhere down by the sea
where 5th and park meets shore and she met me
and kathleen's kind of an anarchist
she's 5 foot none and thin of hip
but not so little in her ways
i don't need to beg or borrow
i don't need to count my sorrows
i don't mind the thought of every tomorrow
with kathleen
i don't need to wilt or worry
i don't feel the world's hurry
we're not much we two
but we're enough
my kathleen
but i still don't know what you see
so kathleen works in a local dive
but she picks her clothes and the music's fine
a place where time don't go and folk don't change
and everyone in the room's in love
with how she sings the orders out
the way she says all bad folk die someday
and later on, on the 3-4-5
she'll bus home late feeling thinned and tired
walk across our old and creaking floor
(chorus)
and kathleen's somewhere off in sleep
she dreams of flight and bumblebees
of superheroes fighting some lost cause
and when she wakes she'll find me here
i'll kiss her eyes before they clear
to greet the dawn and dusk of this new day
and if you saw this girl you'd know what i see
but you don't know my kathleen

Kyle (So Soon)

met at 17 in a shit paying job
coworkers gossiped and the boss fucked off
talked about music and being strange
you left town early and didn't come back again
so i moved out to your new home town
you looked a bit thinner maybe 89 pounds
came out in the year that i wasn't there
trimmed your figure and cut your hair
but hey
don't go away, go away so soon
hey
don't go away it's far too early
hey
don't go away, go away so soon
hey
don't go away, go away so soon
so you didn't speak french in a frenchish town
or maybe you did but your accent dragged you down
kept looking for work or a new life
cycling around on your shit speed bike
so you went off to where the music was loud
your hair changed colour like the shirts in a crowd
and i can't say clubs were ever my thing
but when you were home there was always that joy thing
but hey
don't go away, go away so soon
hey
don't go away it's far too early
hey
don't go away, go away so soon
hey
don't go away, go away so soon
a thin red tree in a forest of flowers
the boys that you loved when you danced for hours
poems in notebooks and lesbian friends
always was a dollar when the paycheck ends
so we grew up and drifted apart
we shared the same rooms but were different hearts
but you always were a laughing, smiling face
though now the rooms empty just sunlight and space
and why did you go so soon?
did you go soon?
so soon?

Strange Spots
07:50
|

they spent their whole life for their kids
in a single story suburb where the middle class lived
stayed together when the love went sour
argued about ten thousand hours
but i guess when you've loved once before
something remains no matter how hard
you try to close that door.
then one day her husband said
there's all these strange spots all across the sheets of our bed.
she lived her whole life for her kids
packed their lunches lid by lid
talked back when anyone put them down
dreamed of clean streets, in a scribbled, used town
then one day her doctor said
you've got these strange spots all across the back of your head
they tried their best to keep it quiet
bought her a wig, she changed up her diet
but every now and then it came
a shot of something and its searing pain
a cure, worst than most disease
a cure that left her on two bruised knees
then one day she couldnt' pretend
sometimes you sacrifice to no close
just a few silver breezes
where the black, billows and blows
the day that her doctor said
we tried, but they've spreading, the spots on the back of your head
so she took her kids hand in hand
danced them across the silver sand
to the shore where she was born
where the word heard the song
and the song met the morn
and she pressed them close to her chest
where the thunderbirds waited, where the song still slept
said i've got these spots on my head
but i'm not, i'm not done just yet
but someday i will go
and i love you so much
i just wish, that i had, the chance, to see you both grow
they say it rained, the night that she passed
they say a storm she was, but no thunder, or hurricane can last
and the next morning there was mist in the trees
in a small grey field, and a quiet,
quiet breeze
and she was strong and she was free
roared with her heart on both of her sleeves
and she was strong and she was free
a lion of fire and freedom she breathed
and freedom she always breathed
